It was 5 am on an scorching August morning when I heard this incredibly catchy melody in my dream, in which I was running up a hill (no other context in the dream tbh). I wasn’t in the most grounded headspace during this time, which obviously meant the creative juices were flowing. The melody immediately jolted me awake and I just knew I had to record a voice memo of it.

It was more pop-oriented than my usual melodies, which was interesting. The words “hit me hard and fast” just came out of me. I didn’t really know what that specifically meant, and I sat with it for a few days. The melody wouldn’t get out of my head. I met up with some friends of mine, Gracie and Justin, who helped me flesh the song seed out. After some open ended discussion, we explored this theme of taking the leap of faith and surrendering in a committed partnership, while simultaneously honoring insecurities that may arise, because this person is worth it. Everything great has risks, and those risks can be worth it. I wanted to really paint a picture of this “leap of faith,” which inspired the line Justin came up with, “through the window, shatter the glass.” We just kinda hummed different melody ideas for the verses until something stuck.

The line “and I’ll fly in the palm of your hand” kept coming up for me when singing the end of the chorus. We were kinda like “hm what does that really mean?" But the more I sing it, the more it makes sense to me… It’s like being able to run free while being grounded and supported by someone who lets you shine. Would love to hear your guys’ perceptions of the title ‘hit me hard and fast,’ as well as the lyrics, and how they may resonate with you!
